Part A: General Guidelines

  1. Introduction and Supersession
    • The KVS Admission Guidelines for the academic session 2023-24 supersede all previous guidelines.
    • Applicability excludes Kendriya Vidyalayas abroad and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya, President Estate, New Delhi.
  2. Definitions
    • Central Government Employees: Regular employees drawing emoluments from the Consolidated Fund of India.
    • Transferable: Employees transferred at least once in the preceding 7 years.
    • Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector Undertakings: Organizations fully financed by the government or where the government share is more than 51%.
    • Single Girl Child: The only girl child to the parents, with no other siblings.
  3. Priorities in Admission
    • Civil/Defence Sector:
      • Priority for children of transferable and non-transferable Central government employees.
      • Inclusion of children of Foreign National officials.
      • Priority for employees of Autonomous Bodies/PSUs and State Government employees.
      • Consideration of children from other categories, including Foreign Nationals if no Indian Nationals are waitlisted.
    • Public Sector Undertakings/Institutes of Higher Learning:
      • Priority for children and grandchildren of project sector/Institutes of Higher Learning employees.
      • Consideration of Central government employees, Autonomous Bodies/PSUs employees, State Government employees, and others.
  4. Eligible Age for Admission
    • Minimum age of 6 years for Class I as of March 31 in the academic year.
    • Age criteria for various classes from I to XII.
  5. Class Strength and Competent Authorities
    • Class-wise strength limits and admission authorities.
    • Registration and admission dates specified for different scenarios.
  6. Reservations in Admission
    • Reservation percentages for SC, ST, and OBC-NCL categories.
    • 3% horizontally reserved seats for differently-abled children.
  7. Admission with KV Transfer Certificate (TC)
    • Automatic admission with KV TC for transferred parents.
    • Special cases for Defence Personnel and approval process for non-transfer cases.
  8. Students of NIOS/State Boards/ICSE for Class XI
    • Consideration for admission in Class XI for students from State Boards, ICSE, and NIOS.

*As per the mandate of NEP 2020, the entry age for Class I has been revised to 6+ years.

Note: There is no age restriction for Kendriya Vidyalaya 2024 admission to Class 11 provided the student is seeking admission in the year of passing the Class 10 examination. Similarly, there will be no upper & lower age limit for admission to class 12 provided there is no break in the continuous study of the student after passing class 11.

Part B: Special Provisions

  1. Additional Admissions
    • I. Armed Forces Directorate Recommendation:
      • Maximum of 06 names recommended by each Armed Forces Directorate for admission of Defence Personnel children.
      • Applicable to Kendriya Vidyalayas in Defence Sector, excluding classes X and XII.
      • Admissions are over and above class strength and follow specific orders from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (up to 31st August).
    • II. Children of Serving KVS Employees:
      • Consideration for admission at any time of the year, irrespective of class strength or year of transfer/recruitment.
      • Class IX admission requires clearing an admission test.
      • Exemption for Officials/Officers on deputation to KVS.
      • No admission for wards of retired persons.
    • III. Children of Central Government Employees Who Die in Harness:
      • Admission provided with pension papers/letter from the Controlling Authority as proof.
    • IV-VI. Children of Gallantry Award Recipients:
      • Admissions for children of Paramveer Chakra, Mahavir Chakra, Veer Chakra, etc.
      • Meritorious sports children securing top positions in national/state-level games.
      • Recipients of Rashtrapati Puraskar in Scouts & Guides.
    • VII-VIII. Single Girl Children:
      • Admission for single girl children in class I and from class VI onwards, with a maximum of two per section.
      • Twin girl children treated as one admission.
      • Admission based on Priority Category in case of more applications than available seats.
    • IX-XI. Bravery Award Recipients, Fine Arts Talents:
      • Admissions for National Bravery Award or Balshree Award recipients.
      • Special talent in Fine Arts recognized at National or State level.
    • XII-XIV. Special Admissions:
      • Admissions for Ministry of External Affairs employees’ children (60 in KVs, 15 in hostels).
      • Admissions for Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) employees’ children (15).
      • Admission for children orphaned due to Covid-19 under PM CARES Scheme.
      • Admissions for Group-B & C employees of Central Police Organizations.
  2. Admission of Wards of Armed/Para Military Forces
    • Automatic admission based on the transfer certificate issued by schools under Armed Forces and Para Military Forces.
  3. Children Who Were Earlier Studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya
    • Consideration for admission, over and above class strength, for children previously studying in a KV but compelled to change schools due to parent’s transfer or relocation to a non-KV area. Proof required.

Procedure for Admissions:

  1. Publicity:
    • Advertise online registration for Class I in local newspapers.
    • Clearly mention that admissions are not restricted to Central Govt. employees.
    • Specify reservations for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and Differently Abled under RTE Act 2009.
  2. Registration:
    • Registration forms available free of cost.
    • Online registration for Class I through the Online Admission Portal.
    • Attested copies of required documents must accompany the application form.
  3. Documents Required:
    • Proof of age.
    • SC/ST/EWS/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/BPL certificate.
    • Certificate of disability if applicable.
    • Service certificate showing the number of transfers for the preceding 7 years.
    • Certificate of retirement for uniformed Defence employees.
    • Proof of residence.
  4. Method of Admission in Class I:
    • Reserved seats for RTE, SC, ST, and OBC-NCL.
    • Admission test not conducted for Class I.
    • Admission based on Priority Category.
  5. Fee and Other Concessions:
    • No fee for children admitted under the RTE quota.
    • Reimbursement for certain expenses for RTE students.
    • Concessions for various categories in fee and other expenses.
  6. Method of Admission from Class II to VIII:
    • Admission test not conducted.
    • Admission based on Priority Category, and if necessary, a lottery system.
  7. Method of Admission in Class IX:
    • Admission test conducted in subjects like Hindi, English, Maths, Social Science, and Science.
    • Merit list prepared for each priority category.
    • Admission granted in the order of merit.
  8. Method of Admissions in Class XI:
    • Admissions based on merit for KV students.
    • Stream allocation based on marks obtained in Class X CBSE Board Examination.
    • Concessions granted for various categories.

Priority Category System for Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission 2024

  • Scheduled Tribes (ST): 7.5%

Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission 2024 Process
